Fear and self doubt are common while growing and coming into one’s self. Taking a leap of faith and bringing your ideas to life is for some, a heavy task. I spent countless nights going back and forth with myself, wondering if my plans are realistic. I asked myself if I’m capable of manifesting the future I can vividly see. I pictured myself being and doing more, but the problem was a lack of faith.
The fact that you are here reading this lets you know I finally got a grip! Whether you are here because of this blog post specifically, or some of our luscious body products, I am grateful for your presence. Now for the back story!
I’ve had jobs in several different industries and though the job descriptions changed, the gnawing voice in my head screaming “I hate it here” was always prevalent. The thought of being an employee for the rest of my life haunts me. My paternal grandma, grandpa, his siblings and their forefathers were business owners, so I have always had entrepreneurial energy in me. I came up with countless business ideas, but my spirit would not let me act on something I was not passionate about. I started making body butters and scrubs for personal use, and after a long period of deliberation, with the support of my family and friends, I knew this business was for me.
Zuri Fate was established in 2020 in Inglewood, CA. Before I knew what my business would be or what I would offer, I knew I would call it Zuri Fate. The name came to me because I needed something with meaning that also represents my duality as an African American woman. Zuri is a Swahili word meaning “beautiful”. Fate has a few definitions, but the one that resonates with me is “the universal principal by which the order of things is presumably prescribed”. I interpret Zuri Fate as the understanding that every experience, positive or negative, plays a role in who we are and who we will become and though things might not happen when and how we want them to, there is beauty in God’s plan and timing.
